GET OUTSIDE! PROGRAMS

Outdoor experiences support both physical and mental well-being. The Get Outside! programs offer families opportunities to explore nature in and around Regina in a safe, welcoming outdoor environment — and all programs are free to participate in.

Originally developed in 2020 in response to COVID-19 restrictions that limited many family activities, the Get Outside! programs were created to help children stay active and connected to nature. Today, these programs continue to be just as important, providing meaningful outdoor experiences as children and youth spend increasing amounts of time indoors or on electronic devices.

The Get Outside! Adventure Guides program, from 2020 to 2022, developed 50 guides to explore community green spaces in and around Regina. See below to view the guides. Get Outside! Outdoor Explorer nature walks were delivered in winter 2022 with support from the City of Regina Winter Activity Grant.

Programs currently being offered include:

  • Get Outside! Kids Club

  • Get Outside! Preschool Club

  • Get Outside! Public Events

Information on these programs, and how to register for Kids Club and Preschool Club events is below.

For event dates for Get Outside! programs, please see our Events page, or watch for notices in our e-newsletter or on social media.

We thank the organizations who provided funding support in the development and delivery of Get Outside! programs. These are acknowledged below and on our Get Outside! posters and on all social media posts.

We thank our many collaborators who provide their expertise and help in delivering these programs including: Nature Saskatchewan, SaskOutdoors, Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the Art Gallery of Regina, Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre, Saskatchewan Orienteering Association, Regina Ski Club, Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Regina Early Years Family Resource Centre, Autism Resource Centre, and the Regina Open Door Society.

In addition, we thank organizations for their earlier help including: Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Birds Canada, Regina Public Library, Regina Symphony Orchestra, and University of Regina – Faculty of Education. We are grateful to Cabela’s Outdoor Fund for providing outdoor equipment.

Get Outside! Kids Club

The Get Outside! Kids Club is a free outdoor education program offered by Nature Regina for children between the ages of 6 and 13 and their parent/guardian. Kids Club began in partnership with Nature Saskatchewan and SaskOutdoors. Children 5 and under are welcome to attend with their registered family and/or caregiver. As Kids Club is for school-aged children, events occur outside school hours (PD days, weekends or school breaks). Since 2020, Kids Club has been inspiring children and families to get outside, be active and build a lifelong connection with nature.

Families are welcomed into green spaces throughout Regina, sometimes with an indoor component hosted by one of our many community partners. Each session begins with a Treaty 4 land acknowledgement, often shared through a song with actions that children quickly learn and love! The skilled program leader then guides children through a great variety of nature-related activities in fall, winter and spring that spark curiosity, imagination, and learning and invites opportunities to connect with nature spaces.

We are proud to partner with organizations, including the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Regina Open Door Society, and the Regina Ski Club.

Activities may include:

Scavenger hunts, making bird feeders, insect and plant spotting, migration obstacle course, teepee raising with a Knowledge Keeper, indigenous games, planting seeds, predator-prey game, bird watching and identification, magnifying glass exploration, learn to ski, snow sculptures, winter snow or mud kitchen, and fire building skills. Children learn to use their imagination to explore and enjoy nature.

Advanced registration is required at natureregina.ca/events.

Nature Regina welcomes all voluntary donations at natureregina.ca/give to support this

A huge thank-you to the City of Regina Community Grant Program for providing funding for this program.

Get Outside! Preschool Club

The Get Outside! Preschool Club is a free outdoor learning program offered by Nature Regina for children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old and their parent/caregiver. Younger children are welcome to attend with their registered family and/or caregiver. Preschool Club was launched in 2021 following the success of the Kids Club model.

Families are welcomed into green spaces throughout Regina, sometimes with an indoor component hosted by one of our community partners. Each session begins with a Treaty 4 land acknowledgement, often shared through a song with actions that children quickly learn and love. A skilled program leader guides young children as they explore parks around Regina through playful, hands-on activities in the fall, winter and spring. Kids build curiosity and confidence while learning outdoors AND parents enjoy fresh air, connection, and watching their children thrive.

We are proud to have many partnerships in Regina, including the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, Saskatchewan Science Centre, Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre, the Regina Open Door Society, and the Regina Early Years Centre.

Activities may include:

  • Spring & Fall: insect spotting, pond dipping, scavenger hunts, nature-based games, nature crafts, Indigenous games and storytelling, garden exploration, birdwatching water/mud kitchen, outdoor story time, and more!

  • Winter: animal tracks, snow forts, winter hikes, outdoor fires, scavenger hunts, snow kitchen and snow play, tobogganing, predator-prey games, and more!

Advanced registration is required at www.natureregina.ca/events
