About the Event
a free to attend guided hike of the beautiful hidden valley nature refuge. Perfect for first timers unfamiliar with the Qu'appelle valley and its Flora and Fauna. We'll meet at the gas station in Craven Saskatchewan at 1pm and drive our vehicles to the site. This time we will focus on the weird world if lichens. Utilizing I naturalist and Nature Saskatchewan publications we'll check bark, old logs, rock and bare soil for those unique fungal organisms known as lichen. We'll learn about the several dorms they appear in, (crustose, foliose, fruticose etc. ) as well as fun facts and valuable identification tips and tricks. Using a bottle of purified reverse osmosis water we'll hydrate specimens with a spray bottle on the way up the trail and return to the spot on the return loop and observe the color changes caused by the algae.
