Hidden Valley’s hillsides and prairie are an excellent place to see some of the early spring wildflowers. We will meet at the Museum, drive out to Hidden Valley and then walk looking for wildflowers. The best early wildflowers are along the ridges, so we plan to walk the Ridgeway. You can find a trail map and description of the trails at Hidden Valley at https://www.natureregina.ca/hidden-valley. The Ridgeway is about 1.7 kms in length. We will probably wander on the prairie a bit as well, looking at crocuses. The Ridgeway does involve climbing from the valley bottom to the top, at total elevation gain of 74 metres. It provides some beautiful views of the valley, of lichen covered rocks and, of course, of the wildflowers. Some of the species we hope to in bloom find are Prairie Crocus, Cushion Milkvetch, Moss phlox, Leafy Musineon and Early Cinquefoil. We may see a few birds as well. Bring water, a snack and a camera (optional). Wear good hiking shoes and dress warmly. All ages and skill levels welcome.
