About the Event
Gull Roost Watch in Wascana Park
Leader: Jared Clarke & Brett Quiring
The gulls are back! Experience the spectacle as thousands of gulls pour into Wascana Marsh and lake at
dusk to roost on the ice for the night – it is a cacophony of sound! We will meticulously sift through the
roosting birds to see what species are present. If we are lucky we will find a Lesser Black-backed or a
Glaucous Gull. Gulls are a tricky group of birds to identify as it takes up to 4 years to achieve their adult
plumage. This event is a come and go, you can stay the whole time or just come check it out and leave.
Bring a spotting scope and tripod if you have one, but you will be able to look through some that are on
site. Dress VERY warmly as the sun sets and the wind blows it gets very cold (think January cold). We
are not walking around, this is a stationary event, although we may move over to another location later in
the evening if the birds are gathering in a different spot (text or call 306-552-6587 to check where we are).
All ages and skill levels welcome.
