About the Event
Leader: Fran Kerbs
We will travel to Kingsway Ecological Zone in the Wakamow Valley, Moose Jaw, and have a picnic lunch after, bring your lunch/snack and blanket or lawn chair. The Ecological Zone is a unique and diversified area that encompasses harsh, dry, south-facing slopes, a moist marsh area, a grassy meadow and a woodland. It is home to 140 different plant species, used by over 100 bird species, 12 species of amphibians and reptiles and 20 mammal species. It is also home to a variety of insects and plants which are not found for miles around. We can see what we’ll spot amongst the September fall colours. The path is just under 1 km and has only a couple of steep grades but they’re only about 10’ long, it’s about the same level rise as Hidden Valley, the rest is a mild slightly rolling well-travelled trail. If time permits, we can check the River Park feeder after.
Carpooling may be possible, please pay driver $7 for gas. Dress for weather, but if it’s raining hard or snowing/ice, highway travel may not be recommended and the field trip will be cancelled.
